Barometz (バロメッツ Baromettsu?) are a type of monster in Delicious in Dungeon.
Anatomy and Appearance[]
Mature barometz look much like sheep sprouting from a central stalk, with fern-like leaves extending from the stalk. The sheep portion is in fact the fully ripened fruit of the plant.[1] The fruit's internal structure can be compared to that of a sheep, except the 'internal organs' are melded together and the 'bones' are oddly soft.[2]
Unripe barometz look like glossy peaches or tomatoes on the outside. When cut open, the fruit is shown to have a thick rind containing something that looks much like a sheep foetus or lamb, and leaks a dark juice. The internal structure of an unripe barometz is much like a lamb, with similar cuts of 'meat' (flesh) able to be obtained.[3]

Behaviour and Weaknesses[]
Barometz are harmless monsters that do not attack others - however, they attract other carnivorous monsters who are after the barometz fruit. As such, care must be taken when approaching them.[4]
Culinary Usage[]
Both the ripe[2] and unripe fruit of a barometz is edible. The cooked flesh of the sheep-like portion of both a ripe and unripened barometz tastes like crab.[5][2] The rind of an unripe barometz fruit appears to be similar to the flesh of a tomato, which can be used when attempting to recreate the dishes in real life.
Barometz fruit have been used in the following dishes:
(or Barometz Chops)
Trivia[]
- The appearance of the unripe fruit and the title of the dish prepared from it refer to balut, a popular dish in the Philippines and Vietnam that consists of a bird embryo that is boiled or steamed and eaten from shell.[8]
- The plant's namesake and appearance come from the mythical Vegetable Lamb of Tartary, also known under the latin name Planta Tartarica Barometz, which is a plant people thought existed after misinterpreting the cotton plant.
