Beast-men (獣人 Juujin?) are artificially made demi-humans created from the use of ancient magic.[1][2] Beast-men are mostly seen fighting in an arena.[citation needed]
Appearance and Biology[]
Beast-men are created from the process of fusing a beast's soul with human's to create demi-humans.[1] Originally they were created to be used as soldiers.[2] The known beast-man forms are werebears, werewolves, weretigers, werecats, wererats, and even weredeers.[3][4][1][5]
Different forms[]
Werebear[]
Werebears are the strongest form a beast-men can take. In order to obtain a bear's form, the candidate having large and muscular physique is required, which is easier said than done. Especially since either one has to undergo rigorous bulking regimens to achieve the necessary size or be naturally large. But while smaller sized bear's form are attainable by most standards, they are seen as not valued, most likely due to smaller Werebears being not as impressive or as strong as one created with the required and optimal conditions.[3]
Werewolf[]
Werewolves are the most common Beastman form due to how incredibly easy it is to adapt to the changes and the overall lack of requirements for becoming one. Especially since the transformation does not cause a lot physical pain or any significant personality changes, making it the most utilitarian and effective Werebeast transformation.[3]
Weretiger[]
Though weretigers are beautiful and theoretically stronger than werewolves, they aren't as physically powerful as a Werebear and require a lot of skill to utilize their Tiger form. And unfortunately due to adopting predatory feline traits, they sometimes become more unsociable and temperamental loners. Because of these negative behavioral tendencies they aren't often utilized in the arena. And while being a Weretiger is great for fighting, for lifestyle in general can be challenging. It can be sadly quite exhausting being a weretiger due to their pride and temper.[4]
Wererat[]
The wererat form is one of the few able to adapt to a half-foots physique. Wererats are slightly stronger than their humanoid form due to a rat's lack of strength. They are an extremely rare sight.[3]
Weredeer[]
While there is very little known about Weredeer’s beyond what was initially revealed it is known that their front legs take on a gorilla structure when transformed.
Werecat[]
Our only example of a werecat is Izutsumi, whose human soul is merged together with the body of a "Giant Cat", a monster resembling a black panther which likely inhabits the Eastern Archipelago.[6][7] She has biological traits similar to a cat, such as her inability to taste sweetness (cats lack one of the two proteins required to create the gene that allows for sweet taste detection), and she exhibits behaviour that resembles that of a cat such as responding to unwanted physical touch by scratching the person(s) touching her, being a very picky eater with a dislike for vegetables but a love for meat, being extremely aloof (similar to the Weretiger’s own aloofness), sleeping in Chilchuck's bedroll due to it being warm, being quite temperamental and her taking a long time to warm up to her party members. However, it is unknown how many of these behavioural traits are due to her being fused with a Giant Cat, or due to her growing up in slavery before being bought by Shuro's father as a gift for Maizuru.[8]

Trivia[]
- The werebear form is a rare sight in the arena. This form can take a huge toll on a person's body, which leads to fighters in the arena retiring early. However in theory, an ogre would be a perfect candidate to become a Werebear due to their naturally large and brawny bodies, but it may be also twice as exhausting for them given they already have voracious appetites.[3]
- Nearly every arena has a strong werewolf nicknamed the "alpha", who is the most popular amongst viewers and the strongest due to the experience they gain from each clash. An alpha is most recognized from all the numerous scars they’ve attained from the harsh battles they’ve survived.[3]
- Even when werewolves are not transformed, they tend to socialize with others similar to them. Likely due to them adopting canine traits and seeking companionship or a "pack" they resonate with.[3]
- Weretigers are the most popular fighters in an arena due to their exotic nature, but while formidable are very difficult for someone to exist as due to the negative behavioral tendencies developed. But like Izutsumi it could be these behavioral traits can be toned down once meeting people they can warm up to.[4]
- It's unlikely to ever see wererats fighting in the arena, they usually serve and entertain the viewers.[3]
- When comparing souls to eggs, Senshi compares Izutstumi's soul to a mixed omelette which will need a more complex and elaborate method to separate her soul from the beast soul (the filling mixed in with the egg) fused with her without damaging her soul (the egg). This is contrasted by the Faligon, which is compared to a sunny side up egg on bacon, which looks stuck together but will be relatively easy to separate by simply removing the egg from the bacon despite leaving some bits here and there.
