Omelet is the fourth chapter of the Delicious in Dungeon manga.
Summary[]
Laios' party continues to make their way through the dungeon in search of the Red Dragon but are unfortunately not making good time, mostly due to Marcille not being able to keep up. As they take a short break for her sake, the rest of the party begins to plan their next move, with all of Marcille's offers to help being shut down. Their decision to take the path with less monsters prompts Senshi to propose that as Marcille rests, they look for some vegetables, namely mandrakes, to supplement their meals. Marcille, however, is particularly determined to help, expressing her expertise in safely picking mandrakes, but her knowledge is all theoretical (and results in the death of a dog). As she is explaining her method, Senshi promptly uproots a mandrake, to Marcille's audible horror, but he cuts off its head before it can scream. Laios and Chilchuck decide to follow Senshi's method, but Marcille is not convinced. She decides to prove that her way works, in part so they grovel in apology.
With no dog available, she executes her plan with Big Bats instead, tying one end of the rope to a mandrake and dangling the other end tied in a loop outside their nest. After moving to a tower where she won't be able to hear the mandrake's scream, she kicks off her plan by casting an explosion and scaring the Big Bats out from their roost. The plan works perfectly... until the frenzied Big Bat (mandrake attached) falls onto her hiding spot.
The rest of the party go to check on Marcille, who is slightly dazed from the mandrake's scream. In her disoriented state, she is very honest and reveals to the party her reasons for trying to get the mandrake: she wanted them to grovel before her but more importantly, that she didn't like feeling useless. Laios and Chilchuck gently explain that they don't want her to be exhausted too early as her magical skill is necessary for the deeper parts of the dungeon.
Senshi proposes that they make omelettes for their meal, pleasing Marcille as it seems normal. She comments on the weird shape of the basilisk eggs and receives a lesson from Laios in basilisk anatomy in return. Senshi prepares the omelettes filled with minced mandrake and basilisk bacon, keeping the omelette made from Marcille's mandrake separate from the rest, and serves them to the party. Laios and Chilchuck dig in, noting that the one made from Marcille's mandrake is less bitter. Senshi acknowledges the merits of Marcille's method (in relation to cooking, that is) and as thanks gives Marcille the most nutritious part: the mandrake's head.
The chapter closes on a frustrated Marcille, sick and tired of eating monsters.
