Doppelgangers are a type of monster in Delicious in Dungeon.
Anatomy and Appearance[]
Doppelgangers are cephalopods resembling mimic octopuses that are able to take on the appearance of other living creatures by using their long limbs and ability to change colors.[1] Unlike shapeshifters or succubi, they do not necessarily take the form of a familiar person, and unlike slimes, they have a stable form.[2]
They are also very strong, able to hold off and bat away three full grown adults with ease.[3]
Behavior and Weaknesses[]
Doppelgangers will attempt to kill the "original" they are based on in order to take their place.[2]
They are somewhat able to speak and respond to questions,[4] but only based on the memories provided to them. Any other attempts to communicate do not usually work when under the direct control of a Lord of the Dungeon,[5] but they are shown to have a level of self-awareness and independent thought.[6]
A reflective surface such as a mirror can be used to disarm them, as they attempt to copy the form of their own reflection and in doing so revert to their original form. If exposed, they seem to try and hide away in a shadowy location.[1]
Culinary Usage[]
Doppelgangers have been used in these dishes:
Trivia[]
- The doppelganger is likely the most human-like intelligence that has been killed and eaten by Laios's party in the dungeon.
