Shapeshifter (シェイプシフター Sheipushifutā?) is the eighteenth episode of the Delicious in Dungeon TV anime series.
Synopsis[]
In order to save Falin, who has turned into a monster, Laios and his friends decide to confront the mad mage who is the lord of the dungeon. On their way to the depths of the dungeon, following the traces of Falin, they are hit by a violent snowstorm. With poor visibility, they manage to take shelter indoors, only to find that the number of Laios and his friends has increased...! ?[1]
Summary[]
They follow Falin down to floor 6, old dwarven tunnels that should be warm but are instead frozen over by ice. Laios learns from Marcille Delgal was king 1000 years ago but disappeared when the labyrinth was discovered, leading to the sorcerers obsession with finding him. They encounter a shapeshifter that makes copies of them to confuse them, so it can eat them. Luckily, as the copies come from reading their memories it is easy to spot the small details. After exposing the obvious fakes only three remain; one copy each of Marcille, Chilchuck and Senshi, making it Laios’ responsibility to identify the copies. Despite their lack of faith in his deductive abilities everyone pairs up to prepare dinner. Unfortunately, his general obliviousness means he can’t tell the difference no matter how much he tries. Instead Laios exposes the hidden shapeshifter by assuming the persona of a hunting hound, scaring it enough to lose control of the copies which disappear before Marcille blows it up. Laios reveals he actually had several hunches about which were the real ones, which turned out to be correct, based on Chilchuck’s hatred of Mimics, Senshi’s knowledge of the ecosystem and Marcille’s respect of Undine’s. Marcille is suddenly taken hostage by Asebi, one of Shuro’s party who went missing during Falin’s attack.
