Winged Lion (有翼の獅子 Yūyoku no shishi?) is the unnamed entity[1] that is the guardian spirit of the Golden Country trapped by the Lunatic Magician, Sissel in the depths of the dungeon on the Island.[2]

The real identity of the Winged Lion is that of a demon seeking to reach the surface and wreak havoc.[3][4][5] His actions make him the primary antagonist of the manga Delicious in Dungeon.

Appearance[]

As its epithet describes, it looks much like a lion with large, eagle-like wings sprouting from either side of its ribs.[1] It has a yellowish orange fur. However, it has had many forms in the past, Including a sheep-like form, and a form resembling a pig.

Personality[]

The Winged Lion is a hungry, gluttonous demon that consumes the desires of beings near it. It is capable of granting wishes, which it often does as it devoured one's desires. Before the events of the manga, it was a small alien creature that consumed the desire of small animals before discovering that the desires of humans were tastier and more filling. In this discovery, it gained its own desire to consume the world.

The Winged Lion is at first seemingly concerned for Sissel and the Golden Country's well-being and is urging Laios to kill Sissel to that end. This is a ruse to reach it's own end and consume the world and grant all of humanity eternal happiness within its stomach.

Abilities[]

In addition to all the usual abilities of a Demon, the Winged Lion has the ability to appear in prophetic dreams to the people of the Golden Country,[2] as well as to Laios.[6] The Winged Lion is able to communicate to Laios through his sword Kensuke,[7] likely as an extension of its ability to manipulate the creatures of the Dungeon.

Additionally, while the Winged Lion proclaims to grant wishes, it is shown to have either limitations or simply an ability to ignore the intent of the one making the wish, as seen when it created a Doppleganger to replace Marcille's father instead of resurrecting him.[8]

  • The Winged Lion in based on the goetia Demon Vapula depicted as a griffin-winged lion.
