Trivia[]

  • The name in both English and Japanese is a pun: in Japan, there is a tradition of eating tonkatsu (a similarly breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet) or katsudon (rice topped with tonkatsu) the night before major exams. This is because katsu (the shortened form of katsuretsu meaning 'cutlet') is a homophone for the verb 'to win' (勝つ, katsu).[3]
