Living Paintings (生ける絵画 Ikeru kaiga?) are a type of monster in Delicious in Dungeon.

Anatomy and Appearance[]

Although Living Paintings are grouped under the category of "monsters", they are in fact a type of illusion spell that manifests as painted pictures. They look at first glance like regular paintings, but the images depicted in them are able to move.[1] Any pictures scribbled on Living Paintings will also take on a life of their own.[2]

Behavior and Weaknesses[]

Living Paintings will pull people into the picture they depict if they wander too close, so keeping a careful distance is advised.[3] If someone is being pulled into the picture, an explosion spell aimed at the Living Painting will stop this from happening.[4]

When inside the picture, the victim can interact with all the depicted people and objects as if it were the real world.[5] This includes eating food, which smells and tastes like real food,[6][7] but amounts to nothing once they leave the Living Painting.[8] The survival rate after being sucked in is unknown, but the top three causes of Living Painting related deaths are due to starvation (60%), suicide and madness.[2]

While exploring Living Paintings is not advisable, one method of doing so is to tie a rope around the adventurer's waist which they can tug if they wish to leave.[9] The benefits of exploring will allow adventurers to learn historical events which happened in the past. During his explorations of paintings, Laios was unaware that the paintings were depicting the life of Delgal, as he was focused on the food but later realized the significance of the information.

The paintings appear to be directly linked to Thistle the Mad Mage, possibly reflecting his memories, as the version of him encountered within the paintings was able to spot and remember Laios between paintings, and when encountered properly, Thistle mentioned being aware of Laios' intrusions into them.

Culinary Usage[]

The food depicted in Living Paintings has no culinary use whatsoever. It is impossible to bring food out of the painting,[10] and any food consumed while in the painting will amount to nothing when out.[8]

Dishes from within the Living Painting are the following dishes:
