The Lord of the Dungeon (迷宮の主 Meikyū no aruji?) is an absolute being with the ability to design the interior and rules of their dungeon.[1]
Background[]
Lords of the Dungeon are individuals that have "contracted" with a demon of the dungeon that grants their wishes, though most if not all fail to realize that this is a trap by the demon to use them as food source as it consumes desires until they are left as hollow shell that withers away as it has all desires the most basic such as the desire to eat or even move.
They are people of any intelligent race with incredibly strong desires, such as the desire to live a life they were deprived of, or protect that which is dear to them, that are drawn to the depths of a dungeon as it inflates their greed and desires. After encountering the demon it will offer to make them the lord of dungeon promising them the solution to all that ails them. The demon grants their wishes turning the dungeon (seemingly) into the person's own paradise. This is done to create more desires in the individual which the demon will consume, meticulously "pruning" them into a being motivated by single desire which it will then consume in a disturbing and violating manner by magically reaching into the Dungeon Lord's body and consuming their Original Desire, the desire that led them to the demon in the first place.
The purpose of this is to empower the demon, as they become stronger with every desire they eat, eventually hoping to get strong enough to break free of the dungeon and escape to the surface world.
Dungeon Lords are the heart and soul of dungeon as it is their wishes that make the dungeon grow and fill with monsters as they descend into madness, obsession and paranoia, attempting to protect the dungeon at any cost.
As Lord of the Dungeon they have absolute control of the dungeon; they can change the layout, create monsters, and command any and all creatures that originate from the dungeon to do their bidding. They can also make an endless amount of wishes from their demon to construct their own personal paradise as well as people from their past to occupy it and keep them company(however, the demon will often look for loopholes to avoid casting wishes it doesn't want or that are counterproductive to it's goals of making the dungeon lord into a delicacy for them). Though friend, family or any other person created or resurrected by the demon is only a copy of the person is more along the lines of an extremely complex magical automaton and a trues resurrection.
In a sense Dungeon Lords are drug addicts, with the dungeon being the drug and the demon being their dealer; any happiness brought about the dungeon is not a true happiness but a toxic one that is slowly killing them. Their "addiction" to the dungeon and the demon is so strong that even those that have managed to escape the dungeon express regret over doing so, particularly in leaving behind the demon as it is a master at giving them a love so gentle and wonderful that once lost leaves a hole in the dungeon lord's soul.
Dungeon Lords typically have a short lifespan, usually not lasting more than a few years. The only know exception to this is Thistle, the infamous Mad Mage of the series main dungeon, who lasted over 1000 years. However this was due to fact that apart from his intelligence, experience as a mage and the fact that his country, that he Wished to protect, was under constant attack, both directly and by subterfuge causing him to develop a level of paranoia so deep he imprisoned his demon in a spell book that limited its power and influence.
