Mermaids (人魚 Ningyo?) are a type of monster in Delicious in Dungeon. They are often compared to and conflated with Mermen.
Anatomy and Appearance[]
Mermaids are a demihuman species that resemble human women with long hair from the waist up, with fish-like tails from the waist down. It is suggested that they are mammalian, due to the presence of nipples in the art and Laios using them to explain the differences between mermaids and mermen, and thus give birth to live young.[1]

Behavior and Weaknesses[]
Mermaids will sing in an attempt to get adventurers to become entranced and wander towards them. They will not attack directly,[2] though it is said that they will drag their victims into the depths of the ocean if successfully enchanted.[3]
Enchantment by their mesmerizing song can be prevented by ear protection,[4] although this leaves the individual deafened against other threats.[5] An alternate method is to sing along with the mermaids' song, which may annoy them into leaving if one's singing voice is poor.[6][7] It is unknown what the effect would be if the singer is in good harmony.
Mermaids appear to be either omnivores or carnivores, and have no misgivings about eating the young of Mermen.[3]
Culinary Usage[]
It is best not to think about eating mermaids and other demi-humans due to their resemblance to people.[8] As all demi-humans are sapient, the consumption of them is also considered highly unethical as well.
Trivia[]
- Some countries have laws to protect their ships against Mermaids by requiring a Half-foot on board every ship, as their acute senses of hearing allow them to detect Mermaids before anyone else. Unfortunately, this often results in the half-foot's death. Dwarves use birds instead.[3]
