Miscellaneous Monster Tales -4- (モンスターよもやま話 -4-) is the fourth Miscellaneous Monster Tales. It is included at the end of the fourth volume of Delicious in Dungeon. Below is a short summary on each section.
Giant Frog[]
Chilchuck talks about the group's discovery that Giant Frog skin is able to nullify Tentacles poison and is shown fantasizing about presenting it as a product to an audience. Marcille finds the idea brilliant, but Laios points out that the only reason Giant Frog skin is effective is because of the oils the frogs secrete. Merchant Chilchuck is shown sticking his hand in a box full of Tentacles, wearing a glove made of a frog's hand, and is promptly stung by them. In pain, he asks if there is a healer among the audience.
Tentacles[]
Walking among the Tentacles while wearing Giant Frog skin, Laios' party talk about the Tentacles. Marcille comments on how they must get bored waiting for food to fall into their mouths and Laios explains that their main source of food is spirits. He adds that these monsters don't have brains, to which Chilchuck objects, explaining how they're smart enough to grow in places that are enticing to travelers, such as on railings, beside switches, and inside treasure chests. The group praises him for his observation, so he continues with a story. He talks about a doctor who was suddenly met with many female patients, all having suffered Tentacles stings on their hands. The doctor asked for the location of the Tentacles, and was told it was located on the crotch of a strong, handsome warrior. The group then looks at Chilchuck in silent disgust, much to his shock. He then curses Tentacles for his incorrect choice of jokes.
Mermaids[]
While eating on the third level, Laios explains that because Mermaids use their singing voices to lure and drown people, certain countries have laws designed to protect sailors from them. The laws state that each ship must have a Half-foot on board during a voyage so that they can use their fortified senses to detect the Mermaids first. Senshi asks what becomes of the Half-foot, to which Laios replies that they die. Chilchuck then realizes that earlier, Laios had specifically picked him to accompany him in examining Kabru's party and yells at him for putting him in danger.
Mermen[]
Laios tries to convince Chilchuck that it is alright to eat mermen since they look like normal fish in childhood. Chilchuck objects, saying that within half a year they develop demi-human-like features. A mermaid is then shown catching and eating a juvenile merman.
Undine[]
Marcille explains to the party what undines are, commenting that they likely grow large due to the dense concentration of mana in the air. She explains that mana and spirits are found everywhere, and that to absorb a lot of mana one must eat something that has a high mana concentration, like mandrakes. Laios asks what happens if someone exceeds their mana limit, and Marcille replies that it is excreted from the body naturally. She notes that elves have the highest mana tolerance, while dwarves have the lowest. Senshi is shown farting, and Laios then asks if his farts have a lot of mana, which annoys Marcille. Namari is then shown sick in Mr. Tance's house, showing that her sickness was due to the mana used in the teleportation magic.
