Orcs (オーク, Ōku?) are a race in the manga Delicious in Dungeon.

Appearance and Biology

Orcs are fairly broad in build, with porcine features such as a snout-like nose and tusks.[citation needed] They have a different number of toes to tall-men.[1]

They appear to use scent to identify people.[2] Tall-men apparently have a different scent to orcs.[1]

Despite their large physiques, they don't have much body fat, and are extremely muscular. When they're young, their fur is fluffy like a baby boars, but as they grow older it becomes thin and bristly.[3]

The average height for males is 160cm, for females, 150cm. Their age of maturity is 14 years old, and their average lifespan is 55 years old (they are considered a 'short lived' race)[3]

Culture

The chief orc in a tribe of orcs appears to take multiple wives.[4]

Orcs have the custom of inserting shards of monster bone underneath their skin, which heal over and appear to look much like the horns that Oni have. They do this as a way to show their power hierarchy, the powerful and influential an orc is, the more horns he is allowed to have.[3]

The current third generation of orcs in the dungeon are extremely hostile towards all adventurers they come across. In order to prevent dead adventurers from being resurrected, the orcs will even feed their corpses to wargs.[3]

History

Orcs are generally reviled and feared by other races as they are seen as raiders.[5][6] Due to their people having been slaughtered and their land stolen from them by tall-men and elves,[7] they feel great animosity towards any tall-man or elf they come across.[8] When driven from the surface they moved into caves, but their caves were lit on fire,[5] so groups of them relocated into dungeons.[9]

Trivia

  • They keep chickens.[11]
