Red Dragons (炎竜 Reddo doragon?, lit. "flame dragon") are a species of dragon in Delicious in Dungeon. One eats Falin at the beginning of the manga, kick-starting the plot.[1]
Anatomy and Appearance[]
Red Dragons are four-limbed creatures with a long pointed tail and lizard-like snout,[citation needed] and as per their name, are red in color.[2] They are covered in extremely protective scales which are as strong as steel and resistant to magic and weapon damage.[3] Their skin is incredibly thick.[4] They have two pairs of horns on their head, one pair that curves round towards their mouth and one that points straight back.[5] They lack wings[5] but have the ability to breathe fire. They can do this by clicking their tongue and igniting the fuel stored in their bodies, then exhaling.[6] The fuel is typically the indigestible parts of their meals, like bones and fur,[7] as well as oil.[8] The burns left by dragon fire are apparently different to normal fires.[9] In addition, male dragons have a small protrusion underneath their chin, while female dragons do not.[10]

Behavior and Weaknesses[]
Dragons are the apex of all living creatures.[11] Scaled dragons like Red Dragons are invulnerable against most forms of both magical and physical attack due to their extremely strong scales.[3] In addition, magic cannot be used inside their stomachs.[12] They do, however, have a weak point on the underside of their neck where it is possible to land a killing blow.[3] Mithril weapons are useful in this situation as they are able to cut through dragon scales.[13]
Dragons are said to spend most of their time in slumber to maintain their large bodies and thus take a while to digest their food.[14] Red Dragons in particular are said to wake approximately once a month to hunt[15] and tend to swallow their prey whole, retaining what they cannot digest as fuel for their fire breath.[7] The top speed of a Red Dragon is approximately 60 kilometers per hour (about 37 miles per hour);[16] however, they are considered to be not very agile.[17]
Male Red Dragons are known for being territorial.[10]
Culinary Usage[]
Red Dragon meat can be roasted and their tails boiled in soup.[18] The meat is fairly tough and chewy, but has a rich taste and powerful aroma.[19] Their scales can be used as baking trays.[20]
Red Dragon has been used in the following dishes:
Trivia[]
- Due to crocodile meat being used to make a Red Dragon steak in the IKEBUKURO cafe event, it is safe to assume that Red Dragon may taste the same (crocodile meat has the flavour of chicken and the texture of fish).[21]
