Slimes (スライム Suraimu?) are a type of monster in the manga Delicious in Dungeon.

Anatomy and Appearance[]

Slimes look like amorphous blobs, about the size of a human head. However, their anatomy is extremely unusual. Their outermost layer consists of digestive fluid, while all of their vital organs, such as their brain, reproductive organs, and lung, are located inside of that.[1] They are somehow able to convert bat guano into magical energy.[2]

Behavior and Weaknesses[]

Slimes are parasites that do not usually attack people. They tend to lurk near water and wait for aquatic creatures to swallow them, then cling to their host's stomach and feed off of their meals before moving into their bowels to propagate, and are expelled alongside the feces. However, their hosts can occasionally die due to their presence.[3]

Slimes typically find their prey by the breath they exhale, meaning actions such as shouting should be avoided.[4] They occasionally drop from the ceilings of dungeons and land on adventurer's heads, thereby suffocating their victims.[5][6] However, they are fairly weak and can easily be killed by magic[5] or by a stab to a vital spot.[1] They appear to be scared of fire.[7]

Culinary Usage[]

Slimes are edible with a little preparation and are considered delicacies, with some areas of the world famous for the production of dried slime. To prepare dried slime, the slime should be washed with citrus juice in hot water, then salted or the water squeezed out to get rid of the moisture. Slimes should be dried for a minimum of two weeks before eating. If dried for a long time, it can become a high quality ingredient.[4] In addition, slime can be used as a binding agent much like gelatin.[8][9]

Slimes have been used in the following dishes:

Trivia[]

As a general rule, every dungeon contains Slimes and Walking Mushrooms.[10]
